The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Perhaps the most famous of lap dogs. They have the reputation as a 'comfort' dog, stretching back many hundreds of years. Yet his 'spaniel' breeding still invokes his sporting heritage and he loves to be outdoors.

As a spaniel, one of the oldest of all breed types, the origins of the Cavalier are distant, yet the breed as we know it, was only registered by the kennel Club of Great Britain for the first time in 1945, when it was offically distinguished from the King Charles Spaniel.

An active, graceful, beautiful small spaniel, with dark, gentle, expressive round, but not prominent eyes. Skull is almost flat between the ears with a shallow stop.

Long ears are well-feathered and set high. The nostrils are black and well developed without flesh marks. Strong jawes with regular and complete scissor bite.

Long, silky coat, free from curl; slight wave possible, with plenty of feathering. Colours solid ruby, black-tan, tri-colour (black and white with tan markings) and blenheim (rich chestnut markings on a pearly white background). On belnheim dogs, a chestnut-red spot on top of the head between the ears is a uniqe characteristic of the breed, but not essential. Chest, ears, legs and feet are well feathered.ail well set on and carried happily.
